C
Campus-Based Programs: The term commonly applied to those federal student aid programs administered by institutions of postsecondary education. Campus-based programs have limited funding; in order to be considered you must meet the school's priority consideration deadline. Each school may have a different priority date; be sure you know when it is. These programs include: Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), and Federal Work-Study (FWS).
Capitalized Interest: The amount of unpaid interest that is added to the amount borrowed (principal). When interest is capitalized, interest becomes due again on the new higher principal amount. Capitalization may occur when the student does not pay interest on unsubsidized Stafford Loans while in school or the grace period, or during periods of authorized deferments. It may also occur on PLUS Loans between disbursements, or most types of loans during forbearances.
Centennial Scholars Program: Merit-based scholarships for Colorado resident undergraduate students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement.
College Assist: The designated guaranty agency for the State of Colorado that guarantees (insures) Federal Stafford, PLUS, and Consolidation Loans. College Assist is a division of the Colorado Department of Education.
Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE): The state commission that administers state financial aid programs and establishes other criteria for public institutions of higher education.
Colorado Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (CLEAP) Grant:
State grant assistance for undergraduate students with substantial financial need. It includes federal and state funds. The FAFSA is your application.
Colorado Graduate Grant: Need-based aid assisting graduate students who cannot otherwise afford to attend college.
Colorado Graduate Scholars: Merit-based aid recognizing Colorado resident graduate students with outstanding achievement.
Colorado National Guard Tuition Assistance Program:

Colorado Nursing Scholarships:
Designed to provide assistance to individuals seeking nursing education who agree to practice in Colorado. Applications are available from the participating institutions annually.
Colorado Work-Study:
A part-time employment program which provides jobs for undergraduate and graduate students who are in need of such earnings to meet a portion of their education expenses. The FAFSA is your application.
Consolidation Loan:
See Federal Consolidation Loan.
Cost of Attendance:
The COA generally includes tuition and fees, room and board, transportation and commuting costs, books and supplies, and miscellaneous personal expenses. In addition, child care and costs related to a handicap may be included when appropriate. Also referred to as "cost of education" or "budget".
Credit Bureau or Credit Bureau Report:
A credit bureau is an organization that maintains information on your credit history. Credit bureaus provide reports on your credit history to financial institutions that need to know more about your financial reputation. A poor credit rating will adversely affect your ability to borrow in the future.
CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE®:
A separate application from the College Board, used by some private colleges and universities to award institutional aid. Federal and state aid is awarded based upon the information on your FAFSA form.
